The Propane System
Overview
Propane powers the refrigerator, cooking stovetop, water heater, and the furnace in most RV types. Propane is a gas that can cause affixation if it leaks inside your RV.
Start Up
- There is a sensor near the floor that should beep if there is a propane leak, test this alarm on a regular basis and especially before heading out on a RV trip. It is also recommended that an RVer replace the unit every five years, this may save your life.
- In some RVs, if this alarm unit is turned off, the propane system will not operate, as a safety measure, so if propane is not working in your RV, turn on the propane alarm.
Maintenance
- Check to make sure that all of the fittings on the propane system are tight, they can vibrate
loose when you are on the road. Air getting in the system will prevent the system from
operating correctly.
- Check the propane regulator to make sure that it is not plugged up by the oil that is in the
propane. Replace if necessary.
- If the propane system has issues, take it to a qualified RV shop.
Costs
- Propane Regulator $60
