Water Heater

Overview

If you are getting rotten egg smell from the water in your sink, the likely culprit is the anode rod. You can purchase an anode rod at your local hardware store, Amazon.com, or at CampingWorld.

Start Up

  1. Make sure to inspect for debris in the access area of the water heater
  2. Clean the vents and the burner tube, checking for spider webs
  3. Make sure that the water heater has filled with water before turning on either

the electric or the propane burner.

Maintain

  1. Remove the anode rod

1  Make sure to turn off the water heater and let the water cool down so you do not

get scalded be hot water

2   Turn off the water supply to the RV

3   Open the Pressure Release valve to relieve the pressure so the tank will drain

4    Use the right size wrench, you may need a breaker bar to loosen the anode rod

5   Using a $15 Water Heater Flushing Tool- flush out the sediment in the water heater

  • Flush out the tank, twice a year to remove calcium build up, you can use vinegar to help

with this process.

  • Check the electric water heater element
  • Check that the gap on the burner element is correct, consult your owner’s manual

Trouble Shooting issues

If your water heater stops functioning, an easy fix is to replace the board on the water heater.

If you do not have water flow, check that the by-pass valves are not closed from when you winterized the RV.

If you are storing the RV for a long period of time, drain the water heater.

Costs
